Crown Cube Race rules
Crown Cube Race is a real-time race through a maze wrapped around a cube. From level 3 the race spills into extra cubes and side-scrolling worlds, where your monster becomes an android, hunts for crown jewels and battles guardian bosses. 100 levels, 1 to 4 players.
Getting started
- Choose a level from the Level menu at the top of the game. Your progress is saved on this device so you can carry on later.
- Move in real time: there are no dice or turns. Everyone races at once, so speed and route-finding count.
- Win a level by being first to touch the π crown. On world levels the crown appears only after all 3 π crown jewels have been found.
How Crown Cube Race works
- Race to the crown: steer your monster through a maze wrapped around a cube with the arrow keys or W A S D on a computer, or the touch pad on a phone. Reach the π to win the level and score a crown.
- Worlds (from level 3): extra cubes and side worlds float in the corners of the screen. Find the 3 π crown jewels hidden among them; the crown only appears once all 3 are found, and never on the main cube.
- Ring gates: glowing rings jump you between cubes and into side worlds. Each gate needs its coloured ποΈ gate key the first time, then stays open both ways. On some levels the path runs cube β side world β cube β side world.
- Side worlds: step through and your monster transforms into an android in a side-scrolling world, with rooms that branch up, down and around. Keyboard: β β move, Space jump, C run, V fire, B turbo fire, β β to aim, β to duck (twice to lie down; lying on a ledge drops you through), Esc menu. Phones get a stick and JUMP, FIRE, TURBO and RUN buttons.
- Guardians: each crown jewel in a side world is guarded by a boss sleeping in a bubble. It bursts out when you arrive and charges, leaps, flies, climbs the walls, fires bullet storms and lasers. Stomp it or shoot it.
- Gear: grab β weapon boxes (Spark Blaster, Triple Shot, Bounce Fireball, Laser Beam) and, from level 6, the π Jump Boots: tap jump again in the air to boost, and keep tapping to boost higher. πΎ Save spots, β€ hearts, locked guardian doors with their π, and a warp home after the last jewel.
- Wrap-around arenas: one-screen rooms where you walk off one side to come back on the other and ride teleport pads up to the ledges lining the screen.
- Keys, gems and coins: π wall keys let you walk through a maze wall (press Space or the π button), π gems and π° coins add to your score.
- 100 levels: the cubes start small (4Γ4) and grow, side worlds get bigger and the guardians tougher as you climb. Online: pick Create, share the code with up to 3 friends and race the classic cube mazes together.
Tips
- Open a ring gate once and it stays open both ways, so collect gate keys early and use gates as shortcuts.
- Touch every πΎ save spot you pass. If you get stuck in a side world, press Esc (or βΈ on a phone) and choose Back to my last save spot or Back to the start of this world.
- Guardians have patterns. Watch one charge or leap once, then dodge and stomp or shoot it while it recovers.
- With the Jump Boots, keep tapping jump in the air to climb to ledges that look out of reach.
- On the cube, tap Find my monster if you lose sight of it, or Restart level to try a fresh run. Q switches weapons in a side world.
